Dog Mange Prevention

September 8, 2009

Dogs are one of the most loyal and obedient household pets anyone can ever have. Dogs that have been with the family since pup stage are usually considered a member of the household. A well-trained and domesticated dog is loved by almost everyone. So, when it comes to caring for your pet dogs, these canines actually require special care and attention.

Since dogs can be contracted with mites everywhere, they can be easily prone to dog mange but there are ways to prevent them from acquiring the disease. You must be attentive and observant enough to recognize certain signs and symptoms of the weakening health of your dog. Yet, prevention is still preferable rather than waiting for cure and remedy.

Maintaining good hygiene for your pet dog will increase their resistance to illness. In keeping proper hygiene, your dog must be bathed regularly. For long-haired canines, it is best to comb the furs before giving them a bath. Regular brushing of the hair is also important. Oftentimes, the puppies become victims of dog mange. So, before they even acquire it, make sure that the young dogs are well-nourished and the mother dog is kept free from mange.

Associating your dog with other canines in the neighborhood is a possible factor of dog mange infestation. Keep your pet from getting the disease by not allowing him to be in close contact with mangy dogs outside the house. You can house him in a kennel or play with him in your lawn. At times though, dogs need to mingle with other breeds. You can let him do so with your supervision as the pet owner but make sure that he plays with clean and healthy-looking dogs.

Good nutrition and vaccinations are essential factors in dog mange prevention. Always be updated with the required vaccinations that are important for your dog. As early as their pup stage, dogs should be given the needed vitamins and supplements to make them resistant to dog diseases as they grow. Make it a habit to schedule a visit to the veterinarian for a general check-up of your pet.

Just like any other animals, your pet dog has to be free from unwanted illnesses and health problems. Apart from giving them the attention they need, make sure they are given the best health care. You will enjoy the company of a healthy dog and your pet will feel the same.
